5 healthy habits you should practice
By Gabriella Singh
Fuel your body
Giving your body the necessary fuel it needs can make all the difference. Whether you have certain fitness goals, struggle with mental health, or even trying to maintain. Firstly, water. Water is something that is often overlooked but it has so many benefits that you probably didn’t even realize. Make it a habit to chug 12 ounces of water as soon as you wake up. If you like to start your day with caffeine, that’s totally fine BUT wait atleast 2 hours after you drink your water to do so. This may be something you hear a lot but EAT. Often, when struggling with body image issues, we think the fix is to eat less - false. Eat more! Just eat the right things to properly fuel your body so that you can speed up your metabolism. A happy body is a fuelled one!
Get your steps in
We all live busy lives, and sometimes it’s hard to go to the gym or can be lack of motivation. Start small. Go for short walks outside, take in the nature and eventually you’ll fall in love with the feeling it gives you.
Stretch
Our muscles are constantly going through alot with daily activities. Whether that be work, school, gym etc, stretching is a way of relief. Stretching will allow your body to increase muscle blood flow and this enables your muscles to work most effectively. It will also help if you constantly feel stiff, or want to crack different body parts.
Sleep
I can’t stress enough how important sleep is. Sleep is something that is often overlooked and I’m guilty of that as well. Some things that allow me to get enough sleep are;
Melatonin gummies - these are great if you struggle with insomnia or often wake up throughout the night.
Sleep app - there are several different apps, especially meditation apps, that can help wind your mind and body down so it’s ready for sleep.
Alarm - most smartphones have the feature of “sleep” which allows you to set a bedtime and you can select how many hours you would like to be asleep for (I recommend a full 8 hours), if your smartphone doesn’t have this feature, there are many apps that serves the same purpose as well.
Spend less time on social media
Social media can be very exhausting. The world is a stressful place and that stress can lead to insomnia. Some helpful tips can be to put your phone on “do not disturb” 1-2 hours before you go to sleep to ensure that you don’t need to pick up your phone. If you have trouble falling asleep, try reading a few pages of something that interests you instead of mindlessly scrolling through social media platforms.
